(click for greater detail)Most of the time in Beijing was taken up with meetings at Renmin University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Beijing International Studies University, so there wasn't much time for sightseeing. So for completeness I'm posting some links to pictures from earlier trips to Beijing
Our hosts at Renmin treated us to a lunch at a nearby restaurant where staff dressed in Qing Dynasty style costumes served Qing Dynasty style dishes. 
Our hotel was near Renmin, and had a view out to the Northwest, so if you squint correctly you can see the Summer Palace in the distance! (hint, the lake is to the far left)
